About cryptoetf.guide
An independent research site covering crypto exchange-traded products. Who we are, how we compile the data, what we take money for, and what we are deliberately not.
cryptoetf.guide is an independent publisher covering crypto exchange-traded products — spot Bitcoin and Ether funds, altcoin products, fees, custody, market structure, tax and regulation. We are not a broker, an issuer, an adviser or an exchange.
What this site is
A working reference, organised around decisions rather than keywords. There are 54 research pages here, each one covering a single question in depth: which funds exist and what they cost, how the creation mechanism keeps a share tied to bitcoin, what custody concentration actually risks, how the tax treatment works and where it is unsettled, and which routes exist in markets outside the United States.
Every table prints the date we verified it. Where a figure could not be confirmed, the table says see issuer rather than repeating a number we could not stand behind. That happens more often than you might expect, particularly on funds launched in the past year.
Why we built it
Because most crypto ETF coverage answers the same beginner question five different ways and then stops. There is a great deal written about what a Bitcoin ETF is, and remarkably little about how much of a Solana fund's staking reward actually reaches you after the sponsor's cut and the liquidity buffer, or why a fund holding $600,000 costs more to trade than its fee suggests, or what happens to your tax position when a sub-scale trust liquidates.
Those are the questions with money attached. This site is an attempt to answer them at the level of detail they deserve.
How we work
Every number on this site comes from one of four places: an issuer's own fact sheet or prospectus, a filing on SEC EDGAR, an exchange listing notice, or a flow tracker that publishes its methodology. Where sources disagree — and on assets under management they frequently do, because "net assets" and "total assets" are not the same thing — we say so on the page rather than selecting the tidier figure.
We write in the first person plural and mark opinion as opinion. Where a page contains a judgment rather than a fact, it appears in a clearly labelled block. Where the law or the data is genuinely unsettled — wash-sale treatment of grantor-trust ETP shares being the clearest example — we say we do not know, because that is the accurate answer.
The full methodology, including our correction policy, is in our editorial policy.
What we are not
- Not a financial adviser. Nothing here is personalised investment, legal or tax advice, and we are not licensed to provide it.
- Not affiliated with any issuer. We have no relationship with BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, Bitwise, ARK Invest, 21Shares, VanEck, Invesco, Franklin Templeton, WisdomTree, CoinShares, ProShares, Morgan Stanley or any other fund sponsor.
- Not a broker or exchange. We do not hold client money, execute orders or custody assets.
- Not a ratings agency. Our rankings are our reasoning, published with the criteria attached so you can disagree with them.
- Not real-time. Figures move daily. Always confirm on the issuer's page before trading.
How the site is funded
Some outbound links on this site point to commercial platforms, and those relationships help fund the research. We are explicit about two things. First, no issuer pays for coverage, placement or ranking — the fund tables are ordered by objective criteria stated on each page, and no fund can buy its way up them. Second, we criticise products we link near, including on cost, and we recommend against the wrapper entirely where the arithmetic points that way.
If that seems like a fine line, it is one worth stating plainly rather than burying. The detail is in the editorial policy.
On licensing, verify rather than trust
Where we mention that a venue is regulated, the underlying registrations are publicly checkable. CEX.IO is registered with FinCEN as a money services business, holds money transmitter licences across US states under NMLS ID 1804170, and is authorised by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission as a DLT provider under authorisation FSC0686FSA.
